A prominent flat-topped limestone buttress, scored by erosion, it forms part of the Dartry range and dominates the surrounding landscape. The mountain is celebrated in ‘Under Ben Bulben’ by the poet W B Yeats, who is buried nearby in Drumcliff cemetery
